The STEMVAN 500

We’re pretty excited to be planning the inaugural STEMVAN500. This one day event will have teams building small cars (under 1 foot) out of recycled materials in the morning then racing them in the afternoon. Teams will have no idea what they will be getting to construct their cars until that morning. To further level the playing field, this will be outdoors on pavement. Teams can modify as much as they need to account for wind, traction, accuracy and more. All ages are welcome to participate but everyone should do their research. What might seem like a simple challenge is actually quite difficult because of the distance these cars need to travel. Prepare by building prototypes, testing wheel designs and by reaching out to professionals in the field for their advice and knowledge.

We’re still in the planning phase and don’t have our date or venue set. We will let you know as soon as we do. In addition to teams signing up, we’ll need a few volunteers to help run the day so don’t be shy. Send an email to info@thestemvan.com and put “500” in the subject line to stay up to date on the latest developments, dates, location and more.

This event is 100% free and we look forward to meeting all the teams.
Good luck from all of us at The STEM Van.
